The thing about out-of-control plagues isn't just the loss from death or chaos from the ill wreaking havoc on medical care. It's more insidious as entire populations lose other services. Our supply chains have dwindled to barely working. The majority of people in developed nations don't know how to cope with food and other shortages because we haven't had to.
Public wellness has always been a national security issue. Those of us hoping someone up on top will figure that out and take charge probably shouldn't hold our collective breath. In the meantime...here's hoping that the world population doesn't suffer too much while our governments take too long to figure stuff out.
