I admit that I hadn't paid a lot of attention to anything happening on Medium. I've been distracted with the real world--and what happens on Medium was a hum in the background. I had a feeling niggling in the back of my head that something wasn't quite right.

I used to get curated about every other week, but I hadn't seen any curation since August. I wondered what I was doing wrong, but I also don't have the time to put into tracking down what happened.

My reads trickled to a hollow minimum. Even on the good weeks where I've written/published multiple things in multiple places, it's exactly like no one is hearing me in the darkness. Not a complaint, but definitely an observation.

On the one hand, I am not on Medium to support myself. (I'd have to be a far more consistent writer to think that was possible.) But on the other hand, if popular writers are withering on the vine, something is wrong.

Like others, my content page doesn't show my favorite authors unless the stars align. It also smacks me about with terrible writing and other things that I know for a fact aren't in my list of reading topics.

Something went horribly awry. Possibly the AI is attempting a cultural takeover of the English language. I hope our new overlords become more charitable. Until then, I will continue whispering into the void.
