I've read a couple of articles (not published on Medium) that seem to assert that Ev is buying out his entire editorial staff. There is also information that indicates that less money was being given to publications to pay out--and therefore it didn't matter how much readership you had. You /were/ indeed capped for the amount of money you could receive.

The long and short of things is that the algorithm is definitely broken, the staff is being laid off, and things are currently chaotic. I don't know what that means for me as a writer, but as a reader, I've struggled to stay engaged. I really hope things get better soon.
