I used to help people fix up their houses for sale and to live in, and I’d go around their house finding things that I couldn’t (or wouldn’t) fix. One house, the bathroom was obviously headed towards the basement. Below it, a contractor had removed a load bearing wall and neglected to put in a beam to take the weight. The sheetrock was buckling beneath the bathroom. All I could do was repair the sheetrock before I painted and report the danger.
Contractors can do great jobs when they aren’t cutting corners. No matter what a person is able to do, it’s always good to research (the fix and the contractor) and watch for questionable practices and ask questions. /off soapbox
But it does feel great to know your stuff AND hire it out. But hey, pandemic! I’ve got all the time in the world to fix up my house.
