For me, it’s so much this. Because it takes even LONGER to get well when you can’t get someone to sit down logically with you and treat you like you’re a person who is telling the truth. Being skeptical is one thing — but when you’re seen as a statistic because you’re a woman of a certain age group? Then it takes a year or more to get diagnosed with epilepsy, or another year to find a doctor for a second opinion when you’re having issues. And then it turns out to be something you have to have surgery for. Especially when you were told it was all in your head, but in my case, had a birth defect in my gall bladder and another time, endometriosis.
